Morayfield stabbing victim ‘stable’

IT IS understood that a 15-year-old girl has woken from an induced coma after she was stabbed in the heart over the weekend.

It is alleged that following a verbal altercation, the 15-year-old girl was wounded in the torso at the Morayfield Shopping Centre at about 6pm on Saturday.

She was treated at the scene by Queensland Ambulance Service's highly trained Trauma Team who immediately gave her blood through a cannula.

They said she was in a stable condition before she was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, where she received surgery and was put into an induced coma to aid the recovery process.

The single stab wound to her left breast nicked the outer layer of the teenager's heart known as the pericardium.

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with grievous bodily harm and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
