Man in his 50's dies in Burnett Hwy crash

A man aged in his 50s has died after a crash on the Burnett Hwy yesterday afternoon.

The motorcyclist died in the crash, which happened about 15km west of Mount Morgan near the bridge over the Dee River about 2.35pm.

A government vehicle was involved in the crash, there were no injuries to the driver of the vehicle.

Nearby residents who heard the accident said there was the sound of a bike revving before a loud bang.

Another witness said it appeared the bike was 50m away from where the collision may have happened.

Police were unable to confirm these details last night.

The highway was still closed at 8pm while emergency services attended to the crash.

The crash came as police warned drivers to be aware over the Christmas break.

Senior Sergeant Ewan Findlater, from the Rockhampton Road Policing Unit, said officers would be focused on speed detection, drug testing and phone and seatbelt offences.

"When planning any long journey, make sure your vehicle is up to scratch... and get plenty of rest along the way," he said.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
