Andy Murray hopeful of return from injury next week

TENNIS: World No.1 Andy Murray is targeting a return to the ATP Tour at next week's Monte Carlo Masters after his comeback to tennis in an exhibition match against Roger Federer.

An elbow injury has kept Murray, 29, out since surprisingly losing in the second round at the BNP Paribas Open in early March.

He has also been recovering from shingles, which he contracted at the Australian Open, where he was beaten by German journeyman Mischa Zverev in the fourth round.

Federer, 35, won the exhibition match 6-3 7-6 (7-5) in Zurich, with Murray hopeful of playing in France next week.

"I'm hoping, if I keep progressing as I have with the elbow, to play Monte Carlo," said the Scot.

"If not, then I just need to stay patient and I'll try the following week. I'm getting there, I just have to go slowly."
