New Year’s Eve rodeo in Augathella
RODEO: New Year’s Eve will be dull no more, with Augathella planning to hold a rodeo on the last day of 2016.
Keith Clarke, president of the rodeo association, said it was likely a sure thing, even though the club has to go through the motions of confirming the plan.
“It won’t be as big as our Easter rodeo,” Clarke said.
“(Just) bulls, barrels and bronc – (there) won’t be any roping.”
Once upon a time Augathella used to hold regular new year’s eve events every year.
They let that opportunity lapse at some point in the 90s and Mitchell’s association stole the date.
Now Mitchell has given up the new year rodeo, Augie can retake what was originally theirs.
Augathella ran an ad hoc event two years ago without lighting. Now with a new and improved arena, the 2016 show should be a real hoot.
Many complained that New Year’s Eve in 2015 was quiet, without any organised events at all throughout the western area.
Clarke said this made it a unique opportunity for the association.
“Being New Years’ Eve, it’s always a popular night,” he said.
“We get really pressured to do something on NYE because there’s nothing else on.”
The plan will be a 6pm kick-off, with the last ride to take place at 9pm, then a DJ to midnight.
