IN OUR nation's 228 year modern history, Australians has been involved in numerous conflicts and wars. From the time of the first white settlement at Sydney Cove in the 18th century to our peacekeeping roles today, war and military service has had and continues to have significant influence on Australian society and our national identity.

In order to defend Australia against armed attack, our Government invests in armed forces to protect its people and interests and to help promote security around the world.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) consists of three services - the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force.
