Northern Rivers farmers feature in new documentary
NORTHERN Rivers farmers who are benefiting from an environmental approach to their work have featured in a new documentary that will screen in Byron Bay tonight.
Australia has the third-highest rate of land clearing of any developed nation in the world.
The new documentary, Restoring Earth, will be shown at the Stone & Wood Brewery, 4 Boronia Place, at 6pm.
It aims to highlight the current conflict over the old native vegetation laws and the NSW Government's controversial plan to transition to a new draft bill, the Biodiversity Conservation Act.
Co-founder of Byron Bay Brookfarm, Pam Brook, said they were proud to have been part of this film.
"Land clearing is such a critical issue," she said.
"I really believe this is a must see film if you care about the environment and where your food comes from."
Restoring Earth looks at how sustainably run farms are so important for a healthy food chain.
"It is one of the rare occasions when farmers, chefs and urban consumers are coming together to talk about one of Australia's most heated topics land clearing," Ms Brook said.
