Pair facing 26 charges after off-duty cop spots stolen car

TWO people have been charged with a string of offences after an off-duty police officer spotted a stolen vehicle travelling along the Warrego Hwy.

The officer spotted a stolen white Audi on the highway near Plainlands about 9.20pm last night and reported it to Gatton detectives.

Tyre spikes were set up on the Warrego Hwy near Laidley Plainlands Rd a short time later when the occupants of the car, a man and a woman, fled the scene.

Both were arrested and taken into custody after a brief police pursuit on foot.

A man, 23, from Woodridge was charged with nine offences including dangerous driving, failing to stop, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage, obstruct police, unlicensed driving and two counts of stealing.

A woman, 18, from Woodridge, was charged with 15 offences including eight counts of stealing and four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Both were charged with unlawful possession of a Category A firearm after police located a shotgun.

The pair was denied police bail and was remanded in custody to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

Police will allege the vehicle was stolen from Alexandra Headlands between June 30 and July 1.
