Paramedics band together to help mum

A GROUP of paramedics from Innisfail has banded together to help one of their own, former Rockhampton woman Tanya Millbank, following the tragic death of her 16-year-old son.

On August 16, former North Rockhampton High student Jayden Millbank drowned at a popular swimming hole in Gordonvale where he had recently moved with his family.

The Queensland Ambulance Service has started a fundraising page in order to help Tanya pay for Jayden's funeral.

According to the fundraising page, Tanya and her three children recently moved to Far North Queensland so Tanya could serve the Innisfail community as an advanced care paramedic.

Queensland Ambulance Service Legacy Scheme president Rony Sapir said two of Tanya's friends contacted QAS Legacy to support their workmate.

"The QAS Legacy Scheme has been set up to look after paramedics and it's defined for members who have died or their families who've passed away," he said.

"Tanya's friends from work contacted us in order to help her fund the cost to transport her son back to NSW, where she's originally from, and assist in the funeral costs.

"It's just really nice to be able to support Tanya and her family. One of the first things she's come across is a large sum for a funeral and that's a cost no parent wants so if we're able to help, it's just one less thing she has to worry about during this sad time.

"Reading some of the comments on the fundraising page and seeing all of the donations has really overwhelmed Tanya and it just goes to show how people from the public want to give back to paramedics at our time of need."
