QUEENSLAND Senator Pauline Hanson has slammed the Sunshine Coast Council's threat to fine a farmer allowing camping on his property.

Kenilworth dairy farmer Shane Paulger was sent a letter from the council saying he had 45 days to shut down the camping operation or lodge a development application to meet the council's requirements for his 100-odd sites, or face a fine of more than $180,000.

Live on Studio 10, which was broadcast from Alexandra Headland this morning, Ms Hanson said there was too much interference from local governments and councils in people's lives and businesses.

"The government rules and regulations over the years have actually destroyed the dairy industry so they've got to try and make ends meet," Ms Hanson said.

"If people want to say 'okay, there's a beautiful place, let's go and camp there' let them do it."

Mr Paulger, whose family has been farming the property for 60 years, said meeting the council's requirements would cost him hundreds-of-thousands of dollars, something he could not afford.

The council has cited safety and environmental concerns, and said it had been trying to work through the issues with Mr Paulger for the past 12 months.
