Penalty rate shift could lift regional areas
REGIONAL centres could get a boost from weekend work reforms.
At the launch of the hospitality industry campaign, More Jobs, More Shifts, More Choice, in Adelaide on Tuesday, Restaurant and Catering Australia said Sunday pay rates were killing small cafes and restaurants.
R&CA CEO John Hart said harmonising Sunday pay rates with those for Saturdays could be a boon for regional operators.
"In regions ... where restaurants are more likely to be closed on Sundays, reform would kickstart economies and address rising youth unemployment," he said.
