Loveable larrikin killed in horror traffic crash

UPDATE: The friends and family of a young Toowoomba man killed in a crash this morning will hold closely memories of his last birthday celebrated just three days ago.

Corey Pitt, 22, was killed when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a parked semi-trailer at Adare, near Gatton, about 1.30am.

Close friend and housemate Laura Seth spoke of a young man dedicated to making those around him happy.

"He was a larrikin," an emotional Ms Seth said.

"He was always making everybody laugh and always looked out for everybody else."

Ms Seth lived with Mr Pitt and his girlfriend Mindy Errez in Toowoomba for the past six months.

She said Mr Pitt and Ms Errez were sales representatives and travelled a lot, always returning to Toowoomba where he had a large group of friends.

"We just celebrated his birthday two days ago," she said.

"All his friends got together and bought him a cake and some balloons and had a good time."

She said Mr Pitt's family and friends were "doing as good as we can" and were still coming to terms with the news.

"It was a shock, a total shock," she said.

Mr Pitt was travelling eastbound on the Warrego Hwy when the incident occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing its investigations.

EARLIER: The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a fatal traffic crash on the Warrego Highway at Adare, near Gatton, in the early hours of this morning.

Police said initial information suggests at around 1.30am a vehicle travelling eastbound on the Warrego Highway collided with the back of a semi-trailer which was parked at a truck stop.

The 22-year-old male driver of the vehicle was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured in the crash.
