Police officer breaks arm on footpath during arrest
AN officer from Cairns Police will require surgery to a broken arm he sustained during an arrest this morning in the Cairns CBD area.
Around 1.50am police attempted to arrest a 39-year-old Cairns North man in Shields Street for a public nuisance offence.
It will be alleged the man struggled with police with the officer falling onto the footpath and sustaining a severe break to his left arm.
The officer, a 28-year-old constable, was transported to a Cairns hospital for treatment.
The 39-year-old old is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 29 charged with one count of obstruct police.
Police investigations are continuing.
