Police officer tackles man in Bundaberg shopping centre

A MAN was tackled by a police officer in Hinkler Central shopping centre this afternoon after an incident which started in the carpark.

Sergeant Michael Prickett said the officer apprehended the man after he placed a sticker on a parked police car at about 1pm.

"The alleged suspect stuck a sticker on the police car and when he was asked to remove it, he abused the officer and ran off," Sgt Prickett said.

"The police officer pursued the suspect on foot which resulted in him being tackled inside Hinkler."

Sgt Prickett said the lone police officer did not receive any help from passers-by until he yelled out for assistance.

"It's disappointing that people were more concerned about getting video of what was happening on their phones rather than helping out the officer," Sgt Prickett said.

The man was arrested and will be charged with public nuisance.
