THE Queensland Government has set aside $70m for the Mackay Ring Road in its 2017-18 budget.

The funding is just a small portion of the $497.8m needed to construct the two-lane project that is scheduled for delivery in 2020.

A further $46.4m will be spent on Peak Downs Highway works, $13.1m will go towards the Bruce Highway Sandy Gully upgrade and $6.8 will help pay for bridge replacements on Mackay-Slade Point Road.

Other major infrastructure projects include $15m for the Whitsunday Airport upgrade and $7m for the Mackay Wharf fender works.
 

About $10m will be spent on schools in our region including $5.9m for Eimeo Road State School's new classrooms, $1.1m for stage three of Mackay Northern Beaches State School and $2.6m for Mackay North State High's air conditioning replacement.

The Bowen Hospital's essential services upgrade received $3.2m and the Adult Step Up Step Down facility for Mackay residents with mental health problems received $3.5m.

About $2m will go to the Clermont Montcler Monash Lodge aged care facility relocation and $1m will go towards the Sarina Hospital redevelopment.

About $6.4m has been allocated to the Mackay fire and rescue station upgrade and the Proserpine auxiliary fire and rescue station works received $2.3m.

The Bowen Police Station and watch house redevelopment has $7m, the Mackay Neighbourhood Centre renewal project received $1.1m and $2.2m has been given to the Moranbah Youth and Community Centre development.

The Great Barrier Reef Whitsunday Marine Park moorings project received $395,000 and $600,000 went to the Southern Whitehaven lookout trail.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the budget would support 2300 jobs across Mackay in 2017-18.
