Rapist linked to Daniel Morcombe murder to stay in jail

A MAN who raped a Gladstone boy in 1995 will remain behind bars for at least another year.

Queensland Chief Justice Catherine Holmes on Thursday denied Douglas Brian Jackway's application for release.

Jackway is serving an indefinite detention order for the 1995 rape of a boy in Gladstone and an earlier violent rape.

In a brief judgment Justice Holmes said Jackway's detention order would remain in place at least until the next review in 12 months.

Earlier this week the court heard Jackway had been caught attempting to assault murdered Sunshine Coast boy Daniel Morcombe's killer Brett Peter Cowan.

The court heard Jackway had been implicated in Daniel's murder and during the murder trial Cowan's defence team had suggested Jackway as an alternative killer.

When they were both in the same jail Jackway had planned to assault Cowan and threatened to attack paramedics and prison guards.

Jackway has spent just three months of his adult life outside prison. - ARM NEWSDESK
