Roar keeper cleared to face Victory after horror injury

BRISBANE Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young will play against the Melbourne Victory in Sunday's A-League semi-final at AAMI Park.

Young was in doubt after needing 26 stitches in an arm wound suffered in the Roar's 3-0 AFC Champions League loss to Muangthong United in Thailand on Wednesday night.

The former England under-20 international fell victim to a broken and rusty net hook on the goalpost in his unsuccessful attempt to prevent Spanish striker Xisco scoring.

He was forced off the field straight away and replaced by the club's youth team goalkeeper Tom Bilic.

With the club's first-choice keeper Michael Theo having suffered a season-ending knee injury last week, the Roar were considering signing an uncontracted gloveman for Sunday's match had Young been ruled out.

However, a doctor on Friday gave Young the all clear to play against the Victory.

The winner will qualify for Sunday week's grand final.
