Roma’s biggest event cancelled due to COVID-19

THREE WEEKS out, Roma's biggest weekend of the year has been cancelled, as the COVID-19 crisis continues to escalate.

Roma's Easter in the Country will not go ahead this year, with the committee saying it had been a difficult decision to make.

The committee said they regretted that the event had to be cancelled, but that it was a decision in the best interest for the health of the community.

President Jenny Flynn said with the event scheduled in only three weeks, the committee had engaged in a rational assessment of all aspects of the festival in making their decision.

"Being acutely aware of the enormous economic injection this festival makes into the Roma community, the committee has been working to ensure there is no alternative option for the event," Mrs Flynn said.

"It has also been necessary to try to ensure there is sustainability in the long term for the festival.

"The EITC Committee has been in contact with key artists booked to attend the event including Matt Golinski and Lee Kernaghan and both have committed to the 2021 festival. "

Mrs Flynn said the committee wished to thank their sponsor for their support, and would be in contact with them in the coming days.

All pre-purchased tickets and payments for market stalls will be refunded as soon as possible.

"We look forward to catching up with you all on 1 April 2021 for a bigger and better festival," Mrs Flynn said.
