Sign stuff up leaves NT motorists scratching heads
A CONFUSING and bemusing road sign erected this week which gave motorists some odd directions was replaced.
Drivers spotted the flaw in the new sign on the Stuart Hwy at Berrimah on Monday.
The sign incorrectly had the directions to Vanderlin Dr and Berrimah Rd in the wrong place.
Pictures of the sign went viral on social media and it didn't take long for the error to get back to the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics.
A spokeswoman said a manufacturing fault was to blame.
"The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics confirmed the proof for the new road sign prior to its manufacture," she said.
"Due to a manufacturing fault, the design was changed during the production process. Unfortunately, the contractor assigned to install the new sign did not check the sign before it went up."
The street directions were covered up early Tuesday before the sign was removed completely.
"The sign has been removed and taken back to the manufacturer to amend - the rectification works will all be at cost to the contractor," the spokeswoman said.
