Slain cop's partner speaks: 'It never came into my head to leave'
SHE had just watched her mate take two gunshots to the chest. He was bleeding and unable to move. He was dying.
But, as a hail of bullets continued to rain down on them, Senior Constable Cath Nielsen never thought of leaving her partner Senior Constable Brett Forte to try and save herself from gun-toting madman Rick Maddison.
"I never left him. It never even came into my head to leave Bretty, no way," she told The Courier-Mail yesterday in her first interview about the tragedy.

Constable Nielsen was in the passenger seat on a lonely dirt road, west of Brisbane, when Maddison, a criminal with a history of domestic violence and a hatred of police, opened fire at 2pm on May 29.
