Southwest MP hits back at border restrictions
THE Member for Warrego Ann Leahy has hit back at the State Government over new border restrictions, saying exemptions for nearby towns don’t go far enough.
Ms Leahy is particularly concerned about the omission of towns like Bollon, St George, Thallon and Moree from the ‘border zone’, which allows residents of certain towns to cross into New South Wales for essential services.
“There are multiple families, businesses and services that regularly cross the border on any one day to carry out their work and access services,” Ms Leahy said.
“This is not acceptable for Queenslanders along the border in my electorate and I have written to the Premier asking for the urgent inclusion of four postcode areas.
“Residents in my electorate have been COVID free from day one and they should not be penalised for the actions of those who have tried to break the law.”
Ms Leahy told Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk that some residents will be barred from accessing their local chemists, schools and emergency services.
