Strong women recognised

LADIES of the west are known to be a high-achieving bunch, and their efforts were awarded in Kingaroy last weekend at the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women's Network Leadership Awards.

It recognises women who are the invisible threads holding their communities, regions, sectors and industries together and connecting them with the wider world.

Charleville teenager Chelsea Shorten was a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year award, which was ultimately won by Kylee Lyon of Drought Angels.

Jeanette Summerville, also of Charleville, was named Inspirational Woman of the Year.

Jeanette is best known for her work with the CWA, breaking down barriers, making a difference in the community and bringing younger members to the organisation.
