THE region's brightest up-and-coming stylists put their talents to the test at the WorldSkills Hairdressing Competition at TAFE at the weekend.

Hair @ Dalby apprentice Nicci Priaulx and Dalby State High Year 11 student Stephanie Raux won their respective categories and will go on to compete at the WorldSkills National competition in Melbourne next year.

It was a tough job for judge Dmitri Papas who said he was surprised at the calibre of hairdressing talent on show.

"I didn't know what to expect coming in to this but there are some really good creations here," he said.

"The work here is the sort of work we do so it is pleasing to see it is being created by students."

Jenna Sauverain won the Apprentice On-Trend Colour Trophy in the Spotlight Competitions, while Tracy Pitts took out the Senior Editorial Photographic Collection.

Alicia Freeman won the Accelerate to Beauty Students schools category while Brittany Scarff was named the winner in the Beauty Students (full-time TAFE) section.

Ellie Bee won the Open Edition Professional Make Up Artist.
