Swap the chocolate bunny for a bilby this Easter

IT IS that time of the year when supermarket shelves are lined with chocolate goodies, but have you given any thought to supporting a great cause as well as fuelling the festive spirit?

Member for Warrego Ann Leahy is putting out the call for residents in the Maranoa to "please support the Save the Bilby Fund and the work undertaken to conserve the bilbies at Charleville and Currawinya National Park.”

"Fyna Foods support the Save the Bilby Fund through their Easter Bilby range of Australian Bush Friends and Pink Lady bilby chocolates.

"Look for the green swing tag showing the 30 cent donation per chocolate Easter bilby,” Ms Leahy said.

It's not just a cosmetic

issue, she said.

"Rabbits are an introduced pest and number in their millions causing land degradation across the nation and also compete with native bilbies for habitat and burrows.

"There are nation-wide efforts to control the pest rabbits and their environmental damage,” said Ms Leahy.

"It makes sense to buy bilbies not rabbits at Easter time and support the survival of a threatened species, the bilby rather than supporting invasive pest rabbits,” Ms Leahy

said.
