VOLVO'S all-new eagerly awaited XC90 seven-seat SUV has arrived in Australian showrooms to much fanfare.

Three engine variants are on offer from launch, each a four-cylinder featuring Volvo's new Drive-E technology, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and with all-wheel drive capability.

First is a 165kW/470Nm 2.0-litre D5 twin-turbo diesel returning 6.2-litres/100km and starting at $89,950 for the entry-level Momentum edition.

A T6 supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol variant offers 235kW/400Nm, drinks 8.5-litres/100km and can be had for $93,950 in Momentum guise.

Top of the heap is the T8 Twin Engine model - featuring the same T6 petrol engine and backed up by an extra 65kW/240Nm from an electric motor.

This plug-in hybrid combination returns a quoted 2.1-litres/100km and helps propel the large SUV to 100kmh in 5.6 seconds.

This flagship XC90 is available only in R-Design specification and costs $122,950 before on-roads.
