Teenager stalked, robbed in vicious daylight attack in Roma

Four known young offenders fronted court this week after they allegedly stalked and robbed a 13-year-old boy during a daylight attack near the Roma junior campus.

Roma police allege four male youths, known to police, aged 13, 12, 12 and 7 observed the victim while he was shopping on McDowall St at midday on Saturday, January 30.

The offenders allegedly followed the teenager for about two kilometres before approaching him and robbing him.

The horrifying incident occurred at the intersection of Quintin and Bowen St.

Roma Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Sergeant Marty Forest said detectives have identified and dealt with the alleged offenders.

Detectives were able to acquire CCTV footage and information from the community to help with their inquiries.

Two of the boys already had property offences before the court.

The four boys fronted the Roma Children’s Court on Monday, February 1 charged with robbery and unlawful stalking.

Sergeant Forest said there’s very few occasions when youths commit robbery offences in Roma.

“The majority of youth crime is unlawful entry into homes or cars,” he said.

The detective said officers will stand with the community to prevent and solve all crimes and anti-social behaviour.

Police encourage all members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Policelink 131 444 or the Roma Police Station on 4622 9333.

The four boy’s matters were adjourned for a committal mention in March and were released on bail.
