IT'S official: Charleville can once again call itself a world record holder, after the Guinness World Book of Records confirmed their attempt to bake the world's longest damper had risen to the occasion.

The simple combination of flour, water and salt proved to be a winning recipe for Charleville when it made the 153m long attempt on July 13 of this year, under the watchful eye of organiser Leanda Drake.

"It's been a long time coming. We previously claimed the world record in 1994 until the Swedes outbaked us in 2006,” Ms Drake said.

"But we have it back now. We've got both the world record and the Guinness Book of world record.

"Hopefully the Swedes don't take it back, but we're always up for a challenge.

"It really has been a culmination of the team work that went into it.”

Ms Drake said the record-breaking attempt would not have been possible without the teamwork of Murweh Shire Council, Charleville Fishing Club, Chefs Choice Charcoal, many local businesses and the bakers themselves.

"We had the help of lots of people around town,” she said.

"We're all very happy it's back. We just want to thank all the people who made it a success.”

Hundreds of people from around Australia headed to the attempt back in July.
