Noosa's kerbside collection is not 'open slather'

THERE'S going to be loads of rubbish on Noosa Council's agenda in the weeks to come as the second annual bulk kerbside waste collection continues its Saturday rollouts after starting in the southern coastal beaches.

Running until October 17 with a break during the September school holidays, Noosa Council waste manager Wayne Schafer warns the collections are not open slather for locals.

"Residents must limit their rubbish to three cubic metres per property or unit complex, including no more than one cubic metre of bundled garden waste," Mr Schafer said.

Garden waste must be bundled in order for it to be collected and this year the council is offering residents a mattress collection service for a small fee.

"Mattresses have not been included in previous kerbside collections because they can't be compacted in the waste trucks and a few residents have resorted to illegally dumping their mattresses in the bush," Mr Schafer said.

In order to counter this problem, for a charge of $20 per mattress, the council will pick up old mattresses on the Friday before the weekend a street has its kerbside collection.

"Residents should call council before the Wednesday leading up to their kerbside collection day, provide their details and make payment. Council can then ensure that mattresses are collected, kept separate from other waste and recycled appropriately," Mr Schafer said.

The council is distributing brochures detailing collection dates. For more information, including dates, interactive maps and collection areas, please visit the council website or phone the council on 5329 6500.
