Three dead on Queensland roads in past 24 hours

THREE men have died and several people have been seriously injured in three separate crashes across Queensland overnight.

Two men died after being thrown from an open-top car when it crashed on Magnetic Island shortly after 1am this morning.

Police were called to the crash at Sooning St, Nelly Bay and discovered a mini moke had left the road and hit a power pole after failing to negotiate a roundabout.

It is understood the people in the car had left a nearby hostel and were travelling to the ferry terminal at Nelly Bay.

The men were thrown onto the road and later were pronounced dead at the scene.

The 25-year-old female driver of the vehicle was taken to Townsville Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police said a 25-year-old passenger was killed when the car he was in ran off the road at a sweeping bend on Ilkley Rd, Eudlo and collided with a tree at about 8:30pm.

The 25-year-old male driver and another male passenger in their 20's were taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

In Central Queensland an 18-year-old male driver was critically injured his car crashed on the Canarvon Highway about 45km from Rolleston at about 11pm last night.

The teen was taken to the Roma Hospital in a serious condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit are investigating all incidents.
