Title dream not dead yet, says Spurs boss

FOOTBALL: Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said his team would not give up on the English Premier League title after a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace closed the gap to Chelsea at the top of the ladder to four points.

"It was good to get the three points and be alive in the race for the title," Pochettino, aiming to deliver a first title since 1961, said.

"The challenge is to keep going."

Spurs have now gone eight league games unbeaten and they haven't done that since winning the title 56 years ago.

After losing to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final on the weekend, Tottenham appeared to be losing more ground in the title race until Christian Eriksen's unstoppable shot gave it the slenderest of leads in the 78th minute and it was enough for the three points.

With five games remaining, Chelsea is still favourite, particularly as it has an easier run-in with matches against Middlesbrough, Everton, Sunderland, Watford and West Brom.

Spurs has a trickier task, starting with Sunday's North London derby against Arsenal, followed by games against West Ham, Manchester United, Leicester and Hull.

At the bottom, last-placed Sunderland is running out of time to escape relegation after a 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough, which is a place above the Black Cats.

A defeat to Bournmeouth on Saturday will confirm relegation if Hull City takes a point from its trip to Southampton.

Arsenal kept up its chase for a top-four spot for a 21st successive season with a 1-0 home success over Leicester.

The victory came courtesy of Robert Huth's late own goal.
