AN ELDERLY driver crashed into five parked cars outside of a wedding reception in Toowoomba.

The 85-year-old woman driver crashed into the cars outside St Thomas More's Catholic church.

A load bang surprised the wedding party who were eating dinner inside the church hall.

"We were just sitting in there eating dinner and then heard a big loud bang and a lot of revs," groom Anthony Doughty said.

Guests rushed to help the elderly driver and her female passenger, who had been at an evening church service.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics received the call at 7.06pm.

"The 85-year-old female driver and the 55-year-old female passenger were transported to St Vincent's Hospital with neck and chest pains likely caused by the seat belt and airbag," the spokesman said.

The Chronicle understands three of the cars were written off.

Kitchener St station officer Cameron Ashmore said crews were not expecting a lot of damage when they responded to the incident.

"There was a lot of panic when we arrived because there were concerns for the elderly women who were in the car," he said.

"No one else saw it happen because there was no one else in the car park.

"The elderly women left mass, got in the car and then the crash happened."

He said it was likely the woman accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

A total of six cars were damaged including the car driven by the elderly lady.
