12-year-old girl in Laidley crash has died overnight
LATEST: A 12-year-old girl critically injured in a single vehicle crash at Laidley on Friday, June 5 passed away in hospital last night.
A 50-year-old man, the driver of the vehicle, died at the scene.
Initial information indicates that around 4pm a vehicle travelling on Rosewood-Laidley Road left the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The man and girl were both from Grandchester.
SATURDAY 8AM: A 50-year-old Grandchester man was killed and his 12-year-old daughter left fighting for her life following a horrific crash west of Ipswich yesterday.
About 4pm, a Ford Falcon was heading west along Rosewood- Laidley Rd when it veered to the left and crashed down an embankment, about 2km west of Grandchester.
The vehicle was left almost unrecognisable after taking out several trees.
Police were initially unsure if there was a third person in the vehicle.
The man was thrown from the vehicle and was killed instantly.
Rescuers including firefighters and paramedics worked to keep the young woman alive until a rescue chopper arrived.
The chopper had to land on a cleared site about 100m from the accident scene due to the dense bushland.
The crash happened only a short distance from the spot where an elderly Lockyer Valley man died in a car accident in March this year.
Police were unsure as to the cause of yesterday's crash.
The road was closed for several hours as investigations got underway.
FRIDAY, 6.30PM: A man has been killed and a girl is fighting for her life following a horror crash near Grandchester this afternoon.
The injured girl is being airlifted to hospital and is in a critical condition.
The pair was in a sedan that crashed down an embankment on Rosewood-Laidley Rd about 4pm.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
UPDATE, 6PM: Police are currently at the scene of a serious traffic crash which occurred at Laidley this afternoon.
Initial information indicates around 4pm a vehicle travelling on Rosewood-Laidley Road left the roadway and crashed into an embankment.
Two people have sustained life-threatening injuries.
The road is closed and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
There is no further information available at this time.
