TRAGEDY: Roma woman killed in Warrego Hwy crash overnight

UPDATE 7AM: A woman has tragically passed away following a single vehicle crash near Amby at 7.30pm on Sunday night.

Initial police reports indicate a woman was travelling westbound in a utility along the Warrego Highway between Roma and Mitchell, approximately 5km west of Amby, before losing control of the vehicle and it rolling several times before landing on railway tracks.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was a 42-year-old Roma woman and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is understood next of kin was contacted by emergency services overnight.

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.

EARLIER: Police are investigating after a car has crashed on train tracks near Mitchell this evening.

Emergency services were called to the Bongo railway station, near Mitchell about 7.30pm this evening after reports of a serious single vehicle crash on the tracks.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said the car was on the tracks but there was nothing to indicate a train had anything to do with it at this stage.

“Not sure what has happened at this stage, but it’s a serious crash,” the spokeswoman said.
