Turnbull in Turkey for G20 summit amid tight security

WORLD leaders are defying the Paris terror attacks and will meet in Antalya in Turkey for the G20 summit.

Security, Syria and the Islamic State will be high on the agenda.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull arrived in the conference city on Turkey's southern coast on Saturday for the two-day meeting.

He is pictured with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the resort city of Antalya, before the G20 summit which started overnight.

The ABC reported that the pair discussed the refugee crisis - which has brought 2.2 million people to Turkey - as well as fighting IS extremists.

The deadly Paris attacks are expected to spur the leaders on to making a strong statement on degrading and defeating IS in Syria and Iraq.

Long before the Paris killings, the Turkish Government placed stringent security controls around Antalya.

Now much of the city is under tight lockdown, open only to national delegations of the 20 member countries, the media and other people cleared by security.

Meanwhile, the French Government and the United Nations have confirmed that the climate conference in Paris from November 30 to December 12 will proceed as planned, but with beefed-up security.

The conference will be attended by some 120 heads of state, including President Obama, Russia's Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
