CHARLEVILLE property owners Cameron and Jacqui Tickell were visited by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and showed him what goes on behind the scenes in mulga country.

Mr Turnbull and his senior National Party colleagues travelled to Charleville as part of the southwest listening tour.

Mr Turnbull promised landholders he would take their concerns to the federal cabinet, where a discussion would be had on the best way to tackle the big dry.

Agriculture Minister David Littleproud, who was at the meeting, said it was important to provide assistance beyond the farm gate for regional communities struggling with the dry conditions.

"I am pleased to announce that $20million will be going towards rural financial counselling services.

"This commitment by the Australian Government is going to give that entity real surety to be able to come out and interact through the financial impacts, but as well as the emotional impacts that these people out here are facing,” Mr Littleproud said.

Mr Turnbull said his government recognised it was a big issue in rural Australia.

"This is a huge investment into rural and regional Australia,” he said.

"One of the big issues we recognise and we need to be more open about and do more about is mental health.

"My government is putting record funding into mental health services right across the country.

"The most resilient are Australian farmers as they deal with the toughest climate nature can throw and they keep fighting back,” Mr Turnbull said.
