Two dozen jobs lost with Dick Smith closure
TWO DOZEN staff have lost their jobs due to the Dick Smith chain closing its doors in Mackay and the Whitsundays.
The move follows just months after the company's announcement, in February, that remaining stores in Australia and New Zealand would cease to continue.
The Caneland Central Shopping Centre store lost 11 staff members, after the last day of trade on Sunday, following the Airlie Beach store closure on April 16 and Mount Pleasant Shopping Centre store on April 30.
Combined, the iconic Australian retailer dismissed 24 full-time, part-time and casual employees throughout the region.
About 2460 staff have been impacted by the store closures in Australia, with another 430 affected in New Zealand.
In a statement, the company said it anticipated the payment of employment entitlements, including annual and long service leave, should be completed by mid-June, 2016.
