Valera Vale Droughtmaster sale clears 100 per cent of stock

THE Valera Vale Droughtmaster sale has again topped the charts with a 100 per cent clearance in the ring and a selling average of $5341.84.

The sale took place at stud principal Michael Flynn's property in Augathella, with buyers coming from all over Australia and clearing out the 98 bulls on offer.

Mr Flynn said it was an exceptionally strong sale in the tough circumstances.

"You can't top 100 per cent,” Mr Flynn said.

"Last year we got 100 per cent clearance but we had 24 less bulls, we knew it was a risk having more but they were so good that we couldn't knock any of them out and we just let the buyers decide.”

The top-price bull was Lot 54, which sold for $15,500 to the James family of Hidden Valley, Katherine.

With a veterinarian background, Mr Flynn said science had become crucial to producing quality bulls.

"We don't go to shows and we're not in the club, if you like, we just breed good industry-improving bulls, we don't target high-price markets and we back them with a lot of data,” Mr Flynn said.

"We are really pushing the science, DNA testing and research trying to get the gene test to indicate higher productivity, which they have done very successfully in the dairy industry.

"Thank you to everybody for their tremendous support in these tough times, the majority of the buyers were repeat buys, which gives you confidence that the bulls are dong their jobs and that people are taking a risk buying bulls early in the season.

"Thanks to the agents involved, Landmark and Elders for running the sale smoothly and independent agents for your support.”
