Why did she die? Coast family in search for answers

"I HOPE to know that the treatment for other people is going to better than the treatment that Lilli got."

William Sweet revealed his desperate hope today that the circumstances surrounding the loss of his little granddaughter will never happen again.

The 75-year-old retiree sat patiently in the Coroner's Court as the details of the Sunshine Coast child's death were presented to coroner John Lock.

The Meridan State College student was four months shy of her seventh birthday when she died from a massive infection arising from hereditary spherocytosis in August, 2013.

Mr Sweet, his son Brett and daughter-in-law Joanne believe doctors at Nambour Hospital failed to diagnose the youngster correctly when she arrived in the emergency department with nausea, headaches and neck pain.

The family also believes she was kept waiting an inordinate amount of time for treatment.

Speaking after a pre-inquest hearing in Brisbane, Mr Sweet said his family just wanted to know why the little girl died.

"I think we've got to look for a good answer and I think a lot of people have got to answer truthfully for their incorrect treatment that she had and I think it's important that we go further," Mr Sweet said.

Mr Lock set the four-day inquest down for November 2-5 at Maroochydore.
