Young dad worries about his job security

WITH a child on the way, Rockhampton's Nicolas Dowrick hopes full-time work is just around the corner.

The frustrated Nicolas said it was getting harder to find a permanent job within the region.

Nicolas, 18, is looking forward to becoming a dad, but is worried how things will be if his luck doesn't change.

He said he had been looking for at least a year and a half for that elusive position.

"I've only been able to find contract jobs or so but that's still not enough," Nicolas said.

"It is important for me to find a job as I am expecting my first child in February and I am really struggling to find employment."

Even though Nicolas has an array of skills including being able to scaffold, sandblast and work as a mechanic, he said it was still a struggle.

"I'm a hard worker and I grew up on a farm so I've learnt how to do many different trades," he said.

"I am really keen to work so I'm able to support my family, it is really sad to see Rockhampton's unemployment rates so bad."

He hopes he will be able to find employment soon as he has recently moved into a new house with his partner ahead of the arrival of their child.
